Opinions on Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbird & Snakes Casting

A casting decision is what makes a movie enjoyable. Can you picture anyone playing Regina George other than Rachel McAdams or Daniel Radcliffe playing Harry Potter? Casting directors go through a very rigorous process of searching for the correct star before making the final decision. Mainly, it’s best to thoroughly follow said character work when provided source material that describes characters in detail.

Plenty of characters in The Ballad of Songbird & Snakes are identical to those in the novel and movies. The characters are different from what fans expected and often exceeded expectations; however, sometimes, the casting choices just missed the mark altogether. Casting every character ideally is impossible, but The Ballads of Songbird & Snakes movie did a pretty good job.

Here are 4 The Ballads of Songbirds & Snakes Hunger Games movie castings that were amazing (and three castings that ruined the movie)

Good castings

Tom Blyth as Coriolanus Snow

  • Did an excellent job giving a bad character a heart
  • Did an excellent job making a lousy character likable

Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray Baird

  • Did a good job portraying a rebellious teenager
  • Extremely talented singer

Peter Dinklage as Casca ‘Cas’ Highbottom

  • He looks exactly like the description of the character
  • He did a great job playing a complicated character

Viola Davis as Dr. Volumnia Gaul

  • Did a great job playing a character that matches their description in the book

Bad castings

Hunter Schafer as Tigris Snow

  • She looks way too prominent to play a poor girl
  • Would have done a better job playing one of Snow’s affluent classmates

Jason Schwartzman as Lucretius’ Lucky’ Flickerman

  • He didn’t match the character description

George Somner as Spruce

  • He looked older than the rest of his cast members
  • He could have had better acting
