Unidentified Drones Spark Mystery Over East Coast Skies
In recent weeks, residents of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and other states along the East Coast have reported sightings of commercial-grade drones up to 6 feet in diameter flying over neighborhoods after the sun sets; many of the drones were found wondering about their purpose and origin. These recent events have sparked curiosity, concern, and chaos among local communities and federal powers. Not only was the privacy of neighborhoods violated but the drones were also spotted roaming the skies of military bases and government installations. Soon after police arrived at the scenes, the drones disappeared. “The FBI’s Department of Homeland Security, Federal Aviation Administration and Department of Defense said in a joint statement they ‘have not identified anything anomalous and do not assess the activity to date to present a national security or public safety risk.’”(CBS News)
Although the FBI and local government officials have made statements, no official explanations have been provided, leaving the public with no answers. Due to the shocking absence of government intervention and explanation, pedestrians decided to come to their own conclusions about what was really going on. If factored in, the long-term battery, resistance to weather elements, and the precisely controlled movement of the drones indicate that they would not necessarily be available for sale, leading many people to wonder if it could be military or government-issued. Others believe foreign powers are responsible for the surveillance. No matter what the case, civilians are restless and looking for answers, and the mystery will remain.
