The SEC Toy Drive
The Student Executive Council just concluded a toy drive that lasted for two weeks. This toy drive’s purpose was to provide less fortunate children with toys they might not have received for the holidays. The main goal of the SEC was to ensure that all members of the youth community are able to feel supported. Throughout the year the Student Executive Council pursues many projects to give back to the community, such as the annual blood drive in April, in which students are able to help people in need.
The SEC makes sure that all toys that are donated arrive at the location of the people in need. According to Zoya Malik, vice president of the SEC, “the gifts that are purchased off the Amazon wishlist are being directly sent to a local homeless shelter, and will be given to the youth there.”(Malik) It is important to know that all of the donations will be going to a good cause and will be delivered safely. Toys have the ability to significantly improve a child’s life. According to Gabriel Guyton, expert in early childhood, “Through play, children learn about the world and engage in activities that encourage their cognitive, emotional, and social development”(Guyton 2) Without toys, a child may not be able to learn or engage in activities because social aspects of their brain aren’t fully developed.
In conclusion, the Student Executive Council strives to benefit the community and is able to do so by propelling the toy drive into action. By doing this many members of our youth community will be able to learn and engage in activities that will help them to be successful in the future.
