Massapequa High School Senior Dies During Hockey Charity Game
Tragically, on December 4th, Massapequa High School senior and Varsity Ice Hockey player Connor Kasin collapsed during an intermission of a charity hockey game at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage, New York. At some point between periods, the 17-year-old apparently lost consciousness. Emergency staff and medical professionals rushed to the scene, doing everything they could to help. Despite their efforts, Kasin was pronounced dead later that day at the hospital.
In response to the tragedy, the New York Islanders Nassau County High School Hockey League canceled all games and events scheduled for the following days. The Massapequa High School Hockey team, the Massapequa Chiefs, has since added a helmet sticker to all of their helmets to honor their former teammate. A moment of silence was held for Kasin during a game between the New York Islanders and Seattle Kraken.
A funeral was held for Connor Kasin on Friday, December 6th, 2024.
“He taught everyone a lot of things. For me, it was how to be kind and how to be a good person,” said Nicholas Stella, a freshman at Massapequa High School and member of the Varsity Hockey team.
“It was devastating. It’s a 17-year-old kid. He has his whole life ahead of him,” remarked Jeff Temping, his travel hockey coach for the Long Island Sharks.
