What is “Free Guy” All About?

Free Guy, starring Ryan Reynolds, is a movie about Guy, who discovers the world he lives in is a game called “Free City” and he is an NPC or a non-playable character – someone made to make the game more enjoyable for the players. A player from the real world warns Guy the world he knows and loves is about to be deleted, so they work together to keep his world, himself, and everyone he knows from being deleted.

The reason fans are so entertained by this movie is because of the current popularity of video games. Free Guy also contains the appearances of a few famous streamers such as Jacksepticeye and DanTDM. The characters are easy to relate to and the movie keeps people on the edge of their seats every second.

Despite the fact that the movie is set in a video game world, the theme of Free Guy isn’t about video games. According to director Shawn Levy, he agreed with Ryan Reynolds that the main idea of the story should be about pushing past the boundaries of being in the background and feeling “a little powerless in the midst of a world that is not of our making.” The point of the movie is that everyone can be the main character and make their own reality instead of allowing society to choose it for them.
