Why Does Everyone Love Encanto?
The animated movie Encanto enraptured its audience with its amazing animation and magical music. This Colombian-based film, produced by Disney, became popular when TikTok blew up one of its songs. People were excited when the movie was released because of the diverse representation Disney introduced. The movie became so popular that the song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” is the highest-charting Disney song since “Let It Go,” eventually even surpassing it. Much of the film was inspired by Colombian culture, like its bright color scheme.
The story starts with the main character, a 15-year-old girl named Mirabel, who lives in a family full of people with magic they call “Gifts.” This magic is represented by a candle that never burns out. The grandmother, Abuela, is saved by the candle after her husband dies and it blesses her with her descendants being gifted with magic along with a house that came to life, which is called casita. To keep this gift, she pressures her family to be perfect and prove they are worthy to keep it, even alienating one of her own children because he wasn’t helpful to them. This behavior becomes a problem when Mirabel doesn’t receive a Gift. The plot thickens when Mirabel notices cracks in the casita, and she sets off to find whatever it is that’s hurting it and stop it before the house falls apart. The movie revolves around the family and how each of them deals with the constant pressure of being perfect by showing how their damaged relationship is the real thing that’s breaking their home.
The reason people like Encanto so much is because all of the characters have their own flaws and their own problems they have to go through, which makes them more relatable to the audience. Encanto fans are calling for a sequel or a series for it, and while it hasn’t been confirmed to happen yet, the potential certainly isn’t slim. Some people who watched the film believe that it felt like the movie was over before it really began due to the lack of adventure while others like the movie better because of the lack of adventure, making it less like a Disney movie.
