Ways to Spice Up This Year’s Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving is fast approaching, and sometimes the traditional undertakings just aren’t enough to peak the enthusiasm of our young minds. Here are some things you can try to do to add some kick to this years Turkey Day.
1. Family Touch Football Game
Football is as much a Thanksgiving tradition as the turkey dinner. The sport has been played by professional teams on Turkey Day since the 1890’s. Many families watch the big game on television, but this year try organizing a family game. It’s a great way to work up a hunger before the big dinner, and burn a few calories too!
2. Go for a ” Turkey Trot”
This one is for those early birds and exercise enthusiasts. Nissequogue River State Park will be hosting their annual 5k run/walk (a little over 3 miles). Runners check in from 7-8:30 AM at the Nissequogue River State Park Administration Building on 799 St. Johnland Road Kings Park, NY . If interested please register at www.ourstatepark.com/turkeytrot2012.php There are different age categories, and the first three finishers in each category will receive cash prizes. Anyone willing to wake up that early and run 3 miles definitely deserves some kind of a reward.
3. Try a Turducken.
Simply put, turducken is a chicken stuffed inside a duck stuffed inside a turkey. As disgusting as that sounds, it has recieved rave reviews from Thanksgiving tables around the country. They are hard to come by in the supermarket, but some butcher shops do sell them, so if you are lucky enough to come across one, you may want to consider making it an addition to your Thanksgiving table this year.
