Fiddler on the Roof
This past weekend Theatre West put on their spring musical, “Fiddler on the Roof”. The play is about a father, Tevye, who lives in the town of Anatevka, where the people live strictly by their Jewish traditions. Tevye, played by Sam Nackman, was a funny character who faced many internal conflicts during the play. The main source of these conflict were from his daughters who broke the traditions as they choose their husbands.
The play as a whole was an amazing production and Theatre West never fails to disappoint. The set was perfect and the pit provided the singers with a great accompaniment. Sam Nackman was flawless in his role of Tevye. He had the perfect demeanor and voice for the role. The character of Tevye, while burdened with many challenges, always found a way to provide the audience with some comical relief during a relatively serious play. Tevye’s wife, Golde, was played by Athena Priftakis. Priftakis did an amazing job getting into the humorous character of a mother who wants the best for her children. The daughters, Tzeitel (Gianna Barberia), Hodel (Sari Pelletier), and Chavva (Morgan Grant) matured during the play and through their choices of husbands, they showed that some traditions are to be broken over time. All three girls sang wonderfully during their songs and solos.
As a whole, “Fiddler on the Roof” was a great success. The auditorium was sold out both nights that the audience was genuinely interested in the play. Many parents also attended the play because they liked the popular story of “Fiddler on the Roof”. The actors and actresses did a great job portraying the storyline and were very disciplined while on the stage. Junior Samantha Hallock said, “The play was long and the ending was sad but it was worth the watch. The play was very interesting”. “Everyone did an amazing job, ” said Lexi Bainnson, “you could tell they all worked very hard.”
Theater West accomplished another fantastic play showcasing the wide ranging talent within the school. They story was suspenseful, heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time. Great job and congratulations to the entire cast of Fiddler on the Roof!
