April 15th, a day originally commemorating Patriots’ Day and celebrating the success of those who completed the internationally prominent Boston Marathon, quickly descended to a devastating tragedy in the heart of Boston. Approximately 4 hours into the Boston Marathon, with over 23,000 runners and half a million spectators, two bombs exploded near the finish line.

It is estimated that over 140 individuals were injured and 3 were killed, including an 8-year old. Currently, the explosion is being investigated by the FBI and deemed “an act of terror” upon the United States.

“I was shocked when I heard about the bombings in Boston. It truly disgusts me how people can be capable of such horrible tragedies. I really hope they find out who did it and everyone receives justice,” said junior Haylee Schwartz.  Junior Isabella Dana added, “My uncle happened to be in Boston to watch the marathon. Thankfully he decided to leave the event early to avoid traffic. Right after he left, the bombs went off. This tragedy made me realize how easily you can lose someone you love. I can’t believe such terrible people live in this world.”

As of today, an arrest has been made in connections to the bombing. Both Boston and Federal law enforcement have yet to go further into details, but a news briefing is scheduled for tonight at 5 pm.
