Just a bunch of 1’s?

Quick! Check the clock! What time is it? 11:11? Make a wish. After all, many say that any wish may come true at 11:11. But, what about at 11th second, of the 11th minute of the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month of the 11th year of the new decade? What does that mean?

Almost everyone has tried to make a wish at 11:11, and surely on 11/11/11 people

will try for a big wish. But, why exactly do people make a wish at this one time? Some

say that the number eleven creates a doorway to destiny and that when a wish is made, it will be destined to occur. However, whether or not you believe in such superstitions comes down to your personal beliefs.  Senior Victoria Yu says “I think itʼs lucky. I always make a wish at 11:11.” On the other hand, some people donʼt even believe in the idea of 11/11/11. “I would like to participate in it but I still don’t really believe anything will happen,” says senior, Michael Tiongson. 11/11/11 is not the only superstitious date on the calendar. While many believe that 11/11/11 will grant our wishes, that other date on the calendar, 12/21/12 supposedly will doom the world to it’s demise. The ancient Mayan calender supposedly concludes with this date, resulting in this slightly flawed logic that the the world will end.

The significance of this date has spanned the entire globe. There has been a reported ten fold increase in the number of weddings to occur on this ominous date, than any other Friday of the year. Not only are people planning weddings on this date, but people are also planning births on this day as well. But what is the significance of all these 1’s? Numerologists believe that this date is auspicious, while others believe that is exactly that; just a bunch of ones.

So whether you slept in on Friday the 11th or planned your wish to fall exactly at 11:11 11/11/11, it is just another date in history.
