Girls Soccer Season Comes to an End
The 2015 season was a year of rebuilding for the Girls Varsity Soccer Team. Coming off a season with a 1-0 loss in the playoffs to Hauppauge, the team was eager to finish what they had set out to complete the past season. However, the team would need to reconstruct their entire line up in response to losing sixteen seniors. In addition, only two starters returned for this years season. Throughout the season the team encountered many setbacks, yet they always managed to maintain a positive attitude on and off the field.
The Colts finished the season with a record of 3-10-1. This record does not reflect the true success of the season, however. The Colts managed to tie Kings Park, an undefeated and league leading team. As the season progressed, the team gained strength and unity. “With a new head coach and a brand new team, it was like we were starting all over again. It was more of a building block year for the classes below us and that humbled us seniors,” said Katina Cokinos. When asked about the season, Senior Captain Dana Winthrop responded, “This season was filled with a lot of change, but I am proud of our girls for continuing to fight. I couldn’t ask for a better group of girls.”
Although the season ended with the team not making the playoffs, the players remain optimistic about the upcoming season in 2016. This season only makes their ultimate objective that much greater; to return to playoffs and come back with a vengeance.
