Colts Win Two Out Of Three Over Riverhead
The Colts Baseball team faced off against Riverhead this past week, with three games between the league opponents. The first game was a very back-and-forth affair, with flurries of scoring by both teams. The Colts took the lead early, only for Riverhead to tie. The Colts took the lead again, scoring three more runs, only to have Riverhead tie it again. This even happened a third time, with the Colts barely managing to stay in control of the game. The tie was broken for the final time when the Colts broke out with three runs in the top of the seventh inning. Seniors Tyler Delucia and Josh Wende finished the game 3-4 each at the plate, and the Colts won 8-6.
The second game saw Jon Faraci take the mound for the Colts. The St. John’s commit pitched well, allowing only one unearned run through six innings. Going into the seventh, the Colts led, 3-1. Walks and errors cost the Colts though, and they let Riverhead tie it at three in the seventh, and score two more in the top of the tenth to take the lead. The game ended with Riverhead on top, 5-3.
The third game was a must-win for the Colts, to avoid losing the series. The Colts’ offense came out strong from the start, and they never let Riverhead get close. With this win, the Colts improved to an overall record of 11-3. They play three games next week against the team that is tied with them for the league lead, East Islip.
