Hills West Breaks Through in Brentwood Holiday Tournament
At 6:30 A.M on saturday, the Half Hollow Hills fencing team rode the bus to Brentwood High School, where they would compete in the annual individual fencing “Brentwood Holiday Tournament.” The best fencers across the county came and fenced from 9 A.M to as late as 6:30 P.M and Half Hollow Hills had some champions in the tournament. Kenneth Meserole, Anjya Kenagy,Jessica SooHoo, Crystal Chen, and Tiffany Kim all placed top 8 overall within their respective weapons. Last year we won the Brentwood Holiday Tournament and brought home the title, but sadly this year we did not accumulate enough points to defend our crown. Even though we couldn’t defend our title, our fencers proved to be one of the most dominant teams there, only losing to the number one or two overall fencers by just one or two touches. Even without a medal, many of our Epee and Foil fencers placed within the top 16 in the tournament, specifically Justin Cho, Edward Bae, Gary Armyn, Isaac Lee, Paul Pimentel, Aaron Burley, and Noah Im. Great fencing day for Half Hollow Hills to show how far we’ve gone after starting the fencing team eight years ago.
