On Monday, March 24th, several students from High School West competed in a science competition known as NYSSEF (New York State Science and Engineering Fair). Students left at 7:00 in the morning to go to the New York Hall of Science in Queens to present their projects. Once there, the students set up their boards and presented to 3-5 judges over the course of 3 hours in an attempt to qualify for the lightning round.

Out of approximately 150 projects, 19 were chose for the lightning round where the students had to present their project in no more than 5 minutes and allow 5 minutes for questions by the judges. After all the presentations were completed, the winners were announced.

This year, several students from Hills West won very impressive awards. Liana He and Asad Marghoob, both Hills West Juniors, won 4th place in their respective categories of Medicine and Health and Engineering.

Hills West also had two ISEF (International Science and Engineering Fair) qualifiers this year, Daniel Rudin and Bailey Liao. ISEF will take place in Los Angeles, California this year from May 10th to May 17th.

The Hills West Roundup would like to wish a congratulations to everyone that participated in NYSSEF and wish those moving on to ISEF good luck in their competitions.
