Girls Basketball Continues to Improve

Half Hollow Hills West girls’ basketball team had an 10-5 record, and a 7-4 record in league games this season. Despite facing some challenges, the team showed resilience and determination throughout the season. Their determination has been consistent all season. Sophomore Captain Alexa Ferguson said “we have come a long way as a team, but there is definitely still work to be done. Overall we have an awesome squad with great connection and talent, so anything coming our way we are ready to face”. This group of girls demonstrated great chemistry and teamwork, with their biggest wins being against John Glenn (63-21), Amityville (63-43), and Longwood (60-28). Conversely, the biggest upsets were against Hauppauge (58-39), West Hampton Beach (51-33) and North Babylon (54-43). The team expresses how they have been improving since last year, for example, Zoe Franks said, “this regular season definitely shows our team how resistive we can be if we focus and want to win more than the other teams. That really showed in our game against Harborfields” The girls won 39-35 against Harborfields when in previous years, they had a very hard time against them.  Their 5-4 record in league play places them 6th in their league. Some of the biggest key players being Amaya Burke, Emily Johnson, and Zoe Franks. Throughout the season, the Half Hollow Hills West girls faced tough competition but continued to fight back, showcasing their resilience. Key players emerged, delivering standout performances that motivated their teammates and electrified the crowd. As the regular season came to a close, the team’s hard work paid off with a solid finish, leaving both players and fans excited for the future. The bond formed during this season will undoubtedly serve as a foundation for the playoffs, as they look forward to building on their successes.
