The 2026 Oscar Nominations
Fall, Spring, Summer, and Winter; out of all these seasons, my favorite is obviously award season. There’s really nothing like spending months rooting for your favorite films, reacting way too strongly to nomination announcements, and acting shocked every single year when at least one obvious snub happens. Award season isn’t just about the awards though, it’s a shared experience for anyone who cares way too much about movies. This year’s award season kicked off in early January with the Critics Choice Awards on the fourth and the Golden Globes on the eleventh, and from there the excitement only grew. On January 22, 2026, the 98th Oscar nominations were announced, officially starting the countdown to March 15, when Conan O’Brien returns to host the Academy Awards for the second year in a row. Leading the nomination pack is Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, which made history with a record-breaking 16 nominations, surpassing Titanic and La La Land, both of which previously held the record at 14. Close behind is One Battle After Another with 13 nominations, driven by standout performances from Leonardo DiCaprio and Teyana Taylor. Also in the mix are Frankenstein, Marty Supreme, and Sentimental Value, each earning nine nominations and securing their place as major contenders this season. Of course, no award season is complete without the snubs. While Wagner Moura’s historic Best Actor nomination, the first ever for a Brazilian actor, was widely celebrated, fans of Wicked: For Good were left disappointed after the film received zero nominations. Whether you’re hoping your longtime favorite finally wins or just enjoying the chaos that comes with every nomination announcement, award season once again proves why it’s one of the most entertaining times of the year for movie fans everywhere.
