The Hills West Colts’ basketball season is off to an impressive start. They started the season on a winning, with a 9-0 record, becoming the last undefeated team on Long Island before finally dropping their first game against Westhampton, when they were losing 3 starters after Anderson McMorris got injured during the final minutes of practice. The current record for the Colts is 12-1, exemplifying the elite nature of this team. The season goal for the Colts is to not only get their first playoff win since Mitaritonna made his return in 2023, but to bring a championship back to the hardwood of Hills West.
Hills West has been a very disciplined team throughout the beginning of the season, often getting out to early leads. There have been contributions across the entire roster, whether it has been scoring or a hustle role. Specifically, senior Vince Corso averages 15 points per game, while also consistently putting up numbers in the assists and rebound columns. When asked about the hot start to the season, Corso emphasized, “everyone playing together and working hard at practice”. Additionally, junior Anderson McMorris has had a breakout start to the season averaging 13 points per game and having a significant presence felt on defense. McMorris says “the main thing that has shifted this year from last year is confidence.” Also, sophomore Christian Jean provides a spark, scoring 10 points per game with an excellent shot from three, averaging close to 2 deep balls per game. Jean credits the hot start to “the way the team plays together and moves the ball.”
Overall, the Hills West Colts have had a fantastic season so far, already clinching playoffs, and will continue to work hard every day to prepare for the rest of the regular season and eventually the playoffs.
