Winter Concert Brings Music to Life at Hills West!
This past December, the music ensembles of High School West held their annual winter concert on Tuesday, December 17th. The students delivered a well-prepared and captivating performance under the direction of Mr. Fodi, Mrs. Martufi, and Mrs. Romeo.
The orchestras, bands, and choirs played unique and exciting pieces, including “Minute Man” by Robert Pearson, played by the Symphonic Band, “Kuimbi Nafsi Yangu” played by the Concert Choir, and selections from “The Pirates of the Caribbean” played by the Symphony Orchestra. When asked about her choice of the pieces played in the concert, Mrs. Romeo responded, “When most people think of orchestra music, they think of traditional “Classical” music. When I select the pieces for the concerts, I try to make sure the orchestra plays a variety of styles of music so my students are exposed to many different musical genres while they are in my program.”
Mr. Fodi, the band teacher, expressed his views on the performance, “I thought it was one of the best concerts we’ve had here in a long time.” Additionally, Mrs. Romeo, the orchestra teacher, added her opinions about the concert and displayed her anticipation for the upcoming spring concert, saying, “The students did an excellent job performing their winter concert selections, and I am excited to start working on new pieces for the spring.”
Each of the ensembles’ performances was impressive, but the highlight was when the band, orchestra, and chorus all came together to perform the iconic song “Hallelujah.” This piece, a nod to the holiday season, was a beautiful conclusion to the concert and left the audience in awe. The concert showcased the students’ talent and brought the audience together to celebrate music, making it especially memorable and unique for everyone. After a spectacular performance, the music groups are already preparing for their spring concert in May.
