Drama Club Performs “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: High School Edition”
On Thursday, November 21st, and Friday, November 22nd, the Drama Club performed their school play for the fall season. This season, they performed ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.’ This play is a theatrical sequel to the infamous Harry Potter book series, set 19 years after the original story ends. It follows Harry Potter, now a Ministry of Magic employee, and his youngest son, Albus Potter, who struggles with the pressure of living in his famous father’s shadow. Albus forms an unlikely friendship with Scorpius Malfoy, Draco Malfoy’s son, and together, they set out on a dangerous journey involving a Time-Turner to change events from the past. However, their actions have unintended consequences, creating alternate realities threatening the world. The play explores themes of family, friendship, and the importance of accepting who you are. It’s known for its stunning visual effects, magical illusions, and emotional storytelling, making it a unique experience for the fans.
“I thought the show came out spectacular! With the special effects and the acting, even the dancing was fun and gave a great vibe to it.”, said Priscilla Ganesh, a member of the play who acted as Rose Granger-Weasley. Cate McLees, a fellow performer, had a few things to say when asked about her preparation for her role as Polly Chapman and the challenges she faced in the play; she responded, “To prepare, I made sure to attend all the rehearsals, where we brought the scenes to life. At home, I practiced the dances and made sure I knew exactly where to be. It was a lot of work, but seeing it all come together was totally worth it!” John Bholat, a sophomore who attended the play, also had some positive things to say. “I thought the play was fun, and it exceeded my expectations.”
The play was an overall success and an excellent experience for the cast and audience. Indeed, due to the drama club’s hard work and dedication, their play will earn a Huntington Tony Award for best play. With the success of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the drama club is already starting its upcoming spring musical, The Drowsy Chaperone. The club hopes to bring another unforgettable performance, raising the bar play after play.
