Night Of The Living Streaming Services
Whether it’s brutal horror slashers like “A Nightmare On Elm Street,” a family classic like Corpse Bride,” or a completely cheesy and horrible film like “Leprechaun,” during the Halloween season, there are so many great movies to pick from. With the mass rise of streaming services come blessings and curses. So much media is viewable at any time and anywhere, but there are so many companies out there with their own streaming services spreading movies all over. It leaves the question, which streaming service do you pick?
Interviewing a variety of people in our student body, the familiar favorites were “Scream,” “Halloween,” “Child’s Play”, “A Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Friday The 13th”, and the upcoming “Five Nights At Freddy’s” movie. All these films can be watched on three services: Peacock, Max, and Disney Plus.
First up, we have Disney Plus, where you can watch the Tim Burton Classic “A Nightmare Before Christmas”. In this film, Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king of Halloween town, has become bored with the same spectacle every year with Halloween and starts to wish for more. Soon, he discovers Christmas town and plans to take over Christmas and make it his own holiday. The film is claymation and was released in 1993 and has a rating of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. Between the story, animation, and music, there is something here for everyone to appreciate on Halloween.
Next Max is the Home for many classic horror movies, streaming movies such as “A Nightmare on Elm Street,” “The Shining,” and “Lost Boys.” However, the movies that were voted the most as their Halloween favorite were “Scream,” “Child’s Play,” and “Friday the 13th.” These movies all share a common theme where they are all slasher films. A slasher film is a horror film that has a main antagonist who follows a group of characters and kills them one by one for some malevolent reason. First up, “Scream” follows a group of high schoolers who are stalked by the cunning Ghostface and find out who the killer is. Next, “Friday the 13th” follows Jason Voorhees as he gets his revenge on the camp counselors of Camp Crystal Lake. Lastly, there is Child’s Play, which follows Charles Lee Ray, well known as Chucky, a serial killer who transfers his soul into a doll and haunts a young boy and his mother. Even with age, these films still hold up and definitely warrant a watch during the Halloween season.
Lastly, Peacock is a new and upcoming challenger for Max, competing for best horror movies. Along with many classics such as the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” series, “Saw” series, and “Night of The Living Dead”. They also have a multitude of modern masterpieces such as “Get Out,” “Us,” and “Zombieland”. But throughout the interviews, the two most given answers were the “Halloween” series and anticipation for the new “Five Nights At Freddy’s movie.” The rightly named Halloween classic John Carpenter’s “Halloween” is one of the most influential slashers of the genre and has easily become a Halloween icon. Following a man who escaped from a psychiatric ward, Micheal Myers returns to his hometown to follow his diabolical plans. In 2023, it’s not as scary as in 1978, but still offers a fantastic story with characters anyone can fall in love with. On the other hand, there’s that highly anticipated film “Five Nights At Freddy’s.” “Five Nights At Freddy’s” follows our hero security guard Mike Smit, who gets a new job with the night shift in the old problematic pizzeria Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. As the night goes on, the animatronic cat becomes more sinister. This film easily has the potential to become a modern classic and will definitely catch the attention of the younger audiences.
With all the streaming services out there, it is almost like it’s reverting back to cable. Many people do not want to pay for a service that does not have content they do not enjoy. Finding out everyday favorites and compiling them into a minimal amount of services not only allows people to save money by bypassing content they may not care for. These familiar favorites will have anyone having a tremendous spooky time this Halloween.
