Hills West vs. Bellport
Much hype was built up for the volleyball game against the undefeated High School team Bellport. Half Hollow Hills West went out confident and was ready to perform. In the first game the starting line-up included Sophomore Katy Teets, Senior Krissy Spinelli, Senior Kara Spinelli, Sophomore Jacquie Pappalardo, Senior Katy Greenough, and Senior Jessica Kleet. The girls carried a confident energy that was able to help them win the first game with a score of 25 to 22. In the second game Half Hollow Hills West wasn’t so lucky and had an unfortunate and disappointing loss of 25 to 11. In the third match Half Hollow Hill was confident to come back and steal the match away but Bellport came back again with impressive strategy and persistent defense and won again 25 to 19. In order to stay in the game the girls had to work even harder and pull out a win in the fourth game. Half Hollow Hills won the fourth game 25 to 21 in a nail-biting match. After the girls managed to pull out a win they felt confident that they really had a shot at winning against the undefeated Bellport. At first the girls got off to a slow start but eventually were able to creep up right behind Bellport but sadly lost the match 25 to 19 and lost the overall match. The girl’s volleyball team had trained with their all in practice and played good clean volleyball throughout the entire game. Sophomore and setter Jacquie Pappalardo had an outstanding 42 assists and Sophomore and middle hitter Katy Teets had an amazing 22 kills that that boomed down on the opponents. Coach Denegros who has coached volleyball for eleven years characterized her team as versatile, fun, and competitive, and stated that “It was a tough loss but I could accept because we played very well and we never gave up.” In order for the girls to make play-offs they need to win one more league game and everyone on the team is confident that they can make it happen.
