P.S. I Love You Day
Don’t forget to wear purple this Friday, February 8th for P.S I Love You Day. Students all over the states join together to help combat bullying and mental health issues such as suicide.
It is a mission to spread love and decrease pain by educating students earlier about mental health and creating a comfortable atmosphere for people to express feelings. In April of 2010, Brooke DiPalma was dropped off at her high school by her dad. She remembers telling her dad “ I love you” and her father repeating those words back to her. Little did she know that it would be her last time seeing him for her father had committed suicide that day. Shortly after another high school student in her school also committed suicide. A few months after these tragedies, Brooke decided to create P.S I Love You Day with the help of her community. “Tragedy should not be the force for togetherness; togetherness should be the force that ends tragedies.”
This Feb 8th, Half Hollow Hills West along with 100’s of other schools will encourage students to wear purple to help create such an environment and remind us all to be kind to others. Club Ichthus will be handing out cards and candy as a small gesture to show kindness, increase awareness, and raise hope. Each year there is a different theme for this special day. This year the theme of P.S I Love You Day is “be proud of who you are.” So this Feb. 8th I hope you go the extra mile, take a moment to tell those around you that you care and to be proud of who you are.
