Colts advance to next round of playoffs, face off against Sayville
This Saturday, the #2 seed Hills West Colts will host the #3 seed Sayville Golden Flashes on the Hills West turf at 1:00 pm.
Hills West comes into the game coming off of a 31-12 bludgeoning against Miller Place last week. In that game, the Colts put up 28 unanswered points and never looked back. The Miller Place offense looked lost out on the field and they were never able to move the ball against the stout Hills West defense. Freshman Dakim Griffin and Junior Justin Brown combined for 146 yards and 3 touchdowns and Senior captain QB Gerald Filardi threw for 135 yards and 2 touchdowns on 4 completions.
After that win, the Colts continue to ride high as they have won 3 in a row, pushing their record to 8-1 as they look to defeat Sayville for the second time this season. This could be a tough task for the Colts as Sayville has won 4 in a row including last week’s first round 28-14 playoff win against Eastport-South Manor. In that game, Sayville was led by Sophomore QB Brock Murtha, a Notre Dame commit for baseball and WR CJ Messina who caught a 23-yard touchdown pass and scored on a 52-yard run. Murtha threw for 1 TD and ran for 2 touchdowns in the win.
The last time the Colts and Golden Flashes matched up, it was the middle of September and the second game of the season for both teams. Hills West soundly defeated Sayville in that one, 34-18. In that matchup, Filardi threw for 111 yards and 2 touchdowns, Justin Brown ran for 124 yards and a TD and Deyvon Wright and Sadiq Hinds both scored a touchdown and ran for over 50 yards.
Now as we move further into the playoffs, both teams have discovered their identities, so it should be a much closer contest this time around. The winner of this game will face off against the winner of the Westhampton (#1) and Kings Park (#4) game. Come out and support your Colts!!
