Wembanyama!

In his third season of NBA basketball, it is known that if he is able to remain healthy, Wembanyama has a high probability of winning MVP. Only four games into the season, he has already had remarkable performances. In the first game of the season, the Spurs had to play the Dallas Mavericks, a team that just won the lottery and landed another generational talent in Cooper Flagg. Wembanyama finally had his time to shine.

In this game, he had 40 points, 15 rebounds and 3 blocks, while mainly being guarded and guarding multiple time defensive player of the year and all-star Anthony Davis. Now four games into the season Wembanyama has not looked back as he is currently averaging 31 points 13.8 rebounds and 4.75 blocks per game. 

Going into the 2023 lottery, the projected number one overall pick was Victor Wembanyama, a 7-foot-4 center with the skills of a point guard. While the San Antonio Spurs only had a 6 percent chance of winning the lottery, they defied the odds. Therefore, allowing the Spurs to restart their franchise around the best prospect since LeBron James. However, since being drafted, the Spurs have continued to struggle. This is not due to Wembanyama.

Going into the NBA draft, everyone knew that injuries were a major concern. Now, two years into his career, he has played in only 71 percent of the games. Throughout the first two years of his career, he has dealt with the injury bug – in the 2023-24 season, he dealt with ankle and hip problems, and a bruised right knee; in the 2024-25 season, he had to end his season early due to deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder. While he has missed many games, he has still made a tremendous impact on the league.

With Wembanyama remaining healthy and thriving, the Spurs have become a true contender as they are currently 4-0. This is also due to other young players such as Dylan Harper and 2025 rookie of the year Stephen Castle.
