HARAMBE FOR PRESIDENT!
Memes. What is there to say about memes? Anything that is of any importance has become one, and the evidence is all online. Just go on Instagram and Donald Trump’s hair went viral as a HALLOWEEN COSTUME. Look it up. While memes are playing a vital role in the culture of the world today, so has the election. Of course, you can’t forget the influence of TV in the lives of students, as well. This raises the question, which is the most important to the student body of Half Hollow Hills West? Let’s meet the candidates of this “election.”
Hillary Clinton:
Hillary Clinton is the Democratic nominee for president of the United States. She was formerly the Secretary of State, a lawyer and even the first lady. While she is often involved in controversial issues, Hillary is determined to represent this country.
Donald Trump:
Donald Trump is the Republican candidate for president. He is well known on television as the host of The Apprentice and business personality. He also has established a reputation for being extremely opinionated. He achieved wealth through operating casinos and buying and selling real estate properties. Now he has his mind set on leading the country.
Rick Grimes:
Rick Grimes is popular for his well known show The Walking Dead. He was well-respected as the leader of Alexandria (before Negan) for his governing style. Rick was formerly a sheriff in Georgia before the apocalypse. Rick is remarkably skilled with numerous weapons and enjoys killing zombies. This may be just the man America needs!
Harambe:
Harambe caused quite a stir in May for grabbing a child that fell into the gorilla exhibit at the Cincinnati Zoo. Harambe was killed to save the child’s life. Animal lovers and meme enthusiasts showed their appreciation and love of Harambe online, where his memory will be imprinted forever. Even in death voters began the Harambe for president hashtag, surprisingly gaining the support of many.
So… Which figure would the student body prefer as president? When asked, 73% of students could not write 3 facts about Rick Grimes, and actually knew nothing about him. Every student could write 3 facts about Donald Trump, and only 90% could write anything about Hillary Clinton. The majority of these comments were either vague and simple, or the opposite, elaborate conspiracies. Some discussed political views or what these candidates represent, while others barely referenced scandals or commented on appearances. While only 77% could write 3 facts about Harambe, many comments on Harambe were strikingly more enthusiastic and detailed. Harambe had his fair share of conspiracies, but many of these were in support of Harambe, unlike those bashing Trump and Clinton. In a year where the media has bombarded us with election information it’s encouraging to know that the future of America is more interested in a gorilla than genuine presidential candidates. Based on student interest and devotion, Harambe was by far the most popular candidate and therefore wins this election! Harambe for president!
