Hills West Dominates Homecoming Game

Homecoming Football GameThe Hills West football team opened up their promising season with a convincing 42-27 win at Newfield last week. The Colts’ positive momentum continued into Homecoming weekend as they dismantled Smithtown West by a score of 35-6.
Both teams got off to a sloppy start, fumbling the ball on early possessions, but West took hold of the game shortly after. After being pushed back all the way to their own two yard line, the Colts forced a Smithtown fumble which was recovered by sophomore Alex Filacouris, who ran the ball back 98 yards for a touchdown to put the Colts on the board. The first quarter ended with West still holding onto their 7-0 lead.
Hills West increased their lead to 21-0 after a pair of rushing touchdowns, the first of which being a seven yard score by junior Lucas DiGiorgi and the second of which came on a huge 71 yard rush by senior Ray Lyte. After the game Lyte expressed the tight-knit bond of the team, saying, “I wouldn’t want to play with anyone else, these guys are my brothers”.
West picked up its final two scores of the game in the fourth quarter, once again on a pair of rushing touchdowns. Lucas DiGiorgi had his second score of the game and quarterback Anthony Lucarelli put the finishing touches on the game with a rushing touchdown of his own.
West played an all-around solid game, getting strong play on both sides of the ball. The Colts’ defense throughout the day bent, but did not break, as they allowed over 250 yards rushing, but clamped down when it mattered the most, allowing just one touchdown. The Colts will look to keep on rolling in their next game at home against Riverhead on October 1st.
