Boys’ Varsity Tennis’ Stellar Season
The Boys’ Varsity Tennis Team had another great year, finishing with 15 wins and only 2 losses. Outside of their league, the Colts were perfect, ending with a 7-0 record. The 2 losses came from Hills East, who remained first place in the county. Hills West finished in second, dominating all other competition. In the playoffs, West defeated Northport, Ross, and Commack with ease. This brought them to the county finals, where they played the ever-dangerous Hills East team. While the Colts lost once again, they put up a good fight, losing with a score of 2.5 to 4.5 due to inclement weather. This year, the team was mostly juniors and sophomores. Harris Durkovic, Ryan Winthrop and Ryan Casserly are the only three graduating tennis players, so the team is expected to remain strong next year. While the loss of those three players will definitely hurt the team, there is a wealth of great talent on the JV team. With this strong core of players remaining, and with Hills East losing many of their top players, the Colts have a great chance of winning the county championship next year, for the first time in many years.
