Hunting-Tony Awards
The Town of Huntington’s fourth annual “Hunting-Tony” awards ceremony recently took place on May 12, 2014. Huntington drama students, including some members of our own Theater West, dressed to impress and walked the red carpet leading into Northport’s John W. Engeman Theater. There were fifty-three drama students from the nine public schools in the township nominated for awards. The nominees are chosen by a panel of judges that attend and watch each school’s productions. Theater West’s 2013-14 productions proved to a big hit as they took home awards for the following:
“Philadelphia Story” – Fall Play
Best Lead Actor in a Play – Daniel Rudin
Best Scenery in a Play
“Spamalot” – Spring Musical
Best Musical
Best Female Vocalist – Brianna Robinson
Best Supporting Actor in a Musical – Sam Nackman
Best Stage Crew in a Musical
Theater West Senior member Brianna Robinson says, “This is my first year being nominated, but I went last year and I loved getting to see my peers win awards and it was a great thing to be a part of. However, nothing compares to being nominated, and winning was amazing.”
“The Hunting-Tonys have been so amazing to witness the past four years. You meet people who share the same interests as you and they are all so nice. Different theater groups preform a song from their show and we get to experience shows we didn’t get a chance to see from different groups from all over Suffolk County. It’s [overall] an amazing experience,” says senior Connie Schwager.
Congratulations to the nominees and recipients of the Hunting-Tony Awards!
