Pharrell Williams – G I R L
Pharrell Williams released his second album G I R L on March 3, debuting on Billboard200 at number 2.
Prior to the release of G I R L, Pharrell released Happy as an official single, premiering in the animated movie, Despicable Me 2. If that wasn’t enough, Pharrell also released a 24-hour music video for the song with many celebrity guest appearances including Kelly Osbourne, Jimmy Kimmel, Tyler the Creator, and Jamie Foxx.
However, many questioned his perception of women after the release of Blurred Lines. G I R L is Pharrell’s attempt to “eliminate what he sees as an understandable degree of uncertainty over what his attitude to women actually is.” He certainly was successful, as the lyrics in this song celebrate, rather than demean, women, as seen in his first track, Marilyn Monroe.
Pharrell has many collaborations on this album, with Justin Timberlake appearing on Brand New, Miley Cyrus on Come Get It, and Alicia Keys on Know Who You Are. However, the most hyped collaboration would most likely be Gust Of Wind, featuring Daft Punk.
While there are many different artists collaborating with Pharrell, it still sounds like Pharrell. The album is full of joyous tunes with a “skipping” beat.
