The Oscars: Best and Worst Dressed

The 87th Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, took place last night at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California. The film industry’s biggest night was filled with many hits and misses on the red carpet.

Despite wearing black or white to other major award shows this season, Rosamund Pike looked stunning in a vivid red dress by Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy haute couture. Lupita Nyong’o was unstoppable in a glamorous head to toe pearl look by Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein. Cate Blanchett brought color to an all black Maison Margiela haute couture by John Galliano dress with a complimentary turquoise Tiffany & Co. necklace. Margot Robbie rocked a plunging Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane gown and a vintage Van Cleef & Arpels zipper necklace that originally belonged to the Duchess of Windsor. Jennifer Lopez looked like a real life princess in a beautiful embellished Elie Saab gown and casually chic ponytail.

Unfortunately, there are always unflattering award show looks too. Lady Gaga wore a custom Alaïa dress and looked very high fashion, but the shape was ill-fitting and accessorizing with red leather gloves didn’t do her justice. Naomi Watts’ printed Armani Prive dress lacked formality due to its unexpected cut outs. Wearing a fairytale-like Valentino couture gown didn’t quite suit Keira Knightley and her baby bump. Marion Cotillard’s Dior look had an especially uncomplimentary back design that needed more construction. Finally, Julianne Moore’s custom Chanel dress lacked structure and color, unlike her recent award show looks.
