Baseball Takes Two of Three from West Babylon

The Hills West varsity baseball team won two of their three games against West Babylon this last week, placing the two teams in a tie atop the league for first place. The Colts entered the series one game behind West Babylon in the league standings, and needed to win at least two to secure that they would control their own destiny for the league title.

The Colts won the first game 6-0 behind the consistently dominant pitching of junior Aaron Glickstein. The Colts scored 5 runs in the fifth inning to break the game open and never looked back. After this win, though, they promptly suffered their worst loss of the season, losing 9-4 after pitcher Jon Faraci had to leave the game with an injury. This set up the third game to be very exciting.

When the third game began, it was essentially a league title game. West Babylon could all but ensure their title with a win, and Hills West could ensure at least a share of the league title with a win. The Colts jumped out early, scoring six runs, but then they let West Babylon get back into the game late, needing a close called third strike to prevent the tying run from scoring. Aaron Glickstein came in the game in relief of the starting pitcher, Tommy DiGiorgi, striking out 6 in just over two innings to secure the 6-5 win for the Colts. Now, barring a shocking loss to Copiague next week, the Colts will win the League IV title.
