The 71st annual Golden Globes was on Sunday, January 12. The categories for the Golden Globes include Best Motion Picture, Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Best Actor in a Motion Picture, and Best Animated Feature Film. The winner for the best actress in a motion picture (for a drama) Was Cate Blanchett for her role in Blue Jasmine. She won this award because of her portrayal of a women who becomes delusional, a subject that director Woody Allen uniquely touches on in his most recent film. The winner for best supporting actress in a motion picture was Jennifer Lawerence for her role in the movie, American Hustle, which won the award for Best motion picture, musical, and comedy as well. Other actresses who won awards include Amy Adams, Amy Poehler, Robin Wright, Elisabeth Moss and Jacqueline Bisset. The award for best drama TV series was Breaking Bad, a popular show among students at High School West. Breaking Bad beat Downton Abbey, The Good Wife, and House of Cards for the award. Finally, the best animated feature film was Frozen, beating out two other nominees: The Croods and Despicable Me 2.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s hilarity continued for the second year in a row as they they roasted the attending stars for our home entertainment. Many of these award winners were nominated previously, but this year the winners of these rewards seemed to reflect the majority of popular opinion. Even if award shows aren’t your cup of tea, you should still watch it because there are some fun moments and most of the interviews are pretty interesting.
