Varsity Baseball Sweeps Riverhead
The Hills West varsity baseball team played its first league series this week against Riverhead. The Blue Waves were 4-1 entering the series and the Colts were 5-0.
Hills West won the first game on the road, 9-3. Tommy DiGiorgi hit a home run in his first at bat for the third straight game, giving the Colts a 3-0 lead that they never relinquished behind the arm of Aaron Glickstein. Riverhead managed to score three runs in one subpar inning, but the rest of the game was dominated by the Colts.
Jon Faraci pitched a complete game shutout in the second game of the series and the entire offense came alive en route to a dominant 13-0 win.
The Colts scored five runs in the first inning of the third game to take a 5-1 lead, but the offense then went stagnant, and Riverhead chipped away at the lead until they had the tying run on base in the last inning. Tommy DiGiorgi was able to finish his complete game on the mound and the Colts left with the win, 5-3. The Colts are now 8-0 and play a series against Hauppauge next week.
