Stabbing at Half Hollow Hills High School East Football Game
Last Friday, October 17th, a man from Melville identified as Kamal Williams, 17, stabbed an unidentified victim directly after the HHH High School East football game at 7:18 pm. This incident took place in the school parking lot, and was sparked by a “prior dispute,” Newsday reports.
Williams was arrested later that night, with charges of assault and second-degree menacing. The victim, 19, was rushed to the hospital with non-fatal injuries.
As a Hills East tradition termed “blackout,” fans wear all black for their school’s last home game. Phil Chang, an East sophomore, comments on his experience at the event. “I got there late to see my friend who was on the team, but when I got there around 8:15 the police put tape everywhere and I wasn’t allowed to go any further. I was told that the two men both had knives and were arguing before the stabbing. I’m not sure who stabbed who but as one lunged in with the knife and missed, the other grabbed him and jabbed him in the back.
Last Saturday, Williams answered before the court for his crimes in Central Islip, and was released from jail the same day on $11,000 bail. Contrary to popular belief, Williams’s attorney John Scarpa claims his client is in fact innocent, having acted purely out of self-defense against four attackers.
Williams’s brother also commented on the situation, saying that his brother is a “good kid” and their family is “just trying to figure out what happened.”
