A True Nail-Biter, But Varsity Boys Basketball Conquers East

Tensions were high in the crowded gym as many fans screamed and supported their team on January 12 at 2 P.M. in the Half Hollow Hills West gym as the boys faced off against their rival Half Hollow Hills East in what was a terrific game. The first quarter ended with a tie of fourteen to fourteen. In the second quarter the boys began to fall off ending the quarter only scoring 16 points to match East’s 23 points and continued to fall short in the third quarter only gaining 18 points to match East’s 22 points. By the fourth quarter the boys stepped up their game and earned 21 points to trample East’s 10 points which sent them into overtime. In the final minutes of the fourth quarter, Senior Marcus Solomon was able to score two three-pointers that helped to send West into overtime. In overtime Senior Jamir Blackman scored six times out of his total sixteen points to give west the win, 79-76. Junior Terry Harris had an amazing game scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds, Senior Marcus Solomon had a total of 21 points and 6 assists, and Sophomore Jonathan Faraci had a total of 9 points. The guys now have a record of 6-2 and are confident that a win against their rivals will give them more momentum.
