The 2015 Met Gala was held on Monday, May 4th, in New York City at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Arguably fashion’s biggest night was filled with a plethora of one-of-a-kind dresses and suits that left many in awe. This year’s exhibit, China: Through the Looking Glass, gave celebrities a chance to draw fashion inspiration from the influential country.
Supermodel Karolina Kurkova is known for her extremely unique and chic Met Gala ensembles that always coincide with the annual exhibit’s theme. In a very oriental fashion, Kurkova sported a custom Tommy Hilfiger mini dress and Giuseppe Zanotti snake heels, along with Asian-inspired earrings and a dragon clutch by Judith Leiber. Opting for a longer, more floral gown was fashion “It” girl Alexa Chung who wore a vibrant Erdem dress. The intelligent and stylish Amal Clooney brought the red dress emoji to life in a glamorous Maison Margiela gown. Justin Bieber rocked a gold dragon embellished Balmain blazer that perfectly matched the Chinese theme. In recent years, high street brands have created custom dresses for a variety of stars for this event. This year, actress Sarah Jessica Parker wore an asymmetrical embroidered H&M dress complete with a thigh-high slit and of course, a fire-like headdress. Zendaya brought her edgy, fun style to the red carpet in a high-low Fausto Puglisi dress, accessorized by matching cuff bracelets and a regal crown. A classic tuxedo never goes out of style, as seen on actor Ansel Elgort. Supermodel Lily Aldridge made waves in her gorgeous Carolina Herrera ruffled gown, along with stunning jewels and a fish clutch by Judith Leiber, similar to that of fellow supermodel Karolina Kurkova’s. Another model who spiced up the red carpet was Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, who wore a Versace gown that was the perfect balance of classic and sexy. The best look of the night goes to Rihanna, who wore a handmade yellow fur cape created by Chinese designer Guo Pei. The extraordinary cape took over two years to make and was the only look on the red carpet constructed by a Chinese designer. The detail of Rihanna’s entire look was impeccable, from the cape to the headpiece, jewelry, shoes, makeup and even her manicure.
This year’s annual Met Gala proved to be nothing short of amazing, leaving it difficult to surpass come next year.
