On March 28, girls’ track had its first meet against Riverhead High School. However, at the end of the day, Half Hollow Hills lost with a score of 83.5 to 66.5. In the beginning of the meet, the track team excelled at shot put. In fact, a senior, Nyashia Hibbert won five points for her team because she won first place. Her hot streak continued, for she also won first place for girls discus, which granted the girl’s track team another five points. Hills West was able to win second and third place in triple jump and first and third place in the 100 race. In the 3000 race,Andrea Ramsey held a tight lead. Unfortunately, during the very last leap, her exhaustion took over and Riverhead came out on top. In the long jump, two juniors Ana Alhoud and Deborah Myrtil won third place. Alhoud was able to jump about 16 feet and Myrtil jumped 15’7 feet. At the end of the meet, Half Hollow Hills West was not able to snatch many first place titles. After coming up short in several other events the girls were unable to gain enough points for the victory.
